Three from Three for GB Jess Learmonth in Super League Triathlon Championship
Jess Learmonth makes it three from three as she dominates from the start to take her third win in a row in the Super League Triathlon Championship Jersey.
Learmonth arrived in St. Helier, Jersey, fully determined to defend her lead in the standings following her victories in London and Munich. An incredibly impressive performance in Saturday mornings ‘Enduro’ , were once again she dominated right from the get-go. She took the two short chute awards to go on and earn herself a well deserved win and remain top of the leader board with all to play four as she heads into the finale in Malibu, which will crown the champions.
The Womens Enduro finished with GB’s Learmonth taking gold, Georgia Taylor-Brown silver and Cassandre Beaugrand of France bronze.
Vicky Holland (GB) may feel slightly hard done by being relegated to fourth spot having offically taken third spot at the end of the race following Taylor-Brown’s elimination but which was subsequently over-ruled by the appeal panel after the race.
It was all drama for Georgia Taylor-Brown who put in a solid performance to cross the line in second place even after having crashed into the barriers, nonetheless, found herself on the wrong end of a disqualification.
At the end of the race Taylor-Brown found herself eleminated from the race for taking a short chute she was not entitled too. Confusion seemed to reign as race commentators were announcing to spectators through loud-speakers that both Learmonth and Taylor-Brown had a short-chute apiece. Taylor-Brown tried to make amends on the last lap by making up the lost distance by running the chute twice but it looked for all intent and purposes it was too little to late and the elimination would stand.
An appeal was lodged with the organisers and Taylor-Brown’s second place was reinstated with the following reference:
Official Statement:
Georgia Taylor-Brown has been awarded second place at Super League Triathlon Jersey 2021 following an appeal to the Technical Committee.
Georgia was disqualified for incorrectly taking the Short Chute. However, she made up the distance before the end of the final run and it did not interfere with other athletes.
Super League’s Technical Committee will meet again this week to ensure the rules are clarified for future races.
