Super League Triathletes Hold Their Own In Esports Debut

Super League athletes held their own in the Zwift Classics Series as the brand made their debut in the event.

Marten Van Riel was the top finisher of the super league athletes team coming home in 11th place. The Belgian managed to find a fast finish up the steep climb of Box Hill to give his team a good standing in the overall race.

2X Olympic gold medalist Alistair Brownlee was right in the mix of the race throughout taking multiple turns on the front and constantly trying to push the pace on. This tactic worked well as he and Van Riel were able to create a breakaway group going up Box Hill for the first lap.

Coming towards the end of the race, the pace increased and there were three separate attacks going up Box Hill for the second and final time with the last one paying off for the young 16 year old Italian rider Filippo Agostinacchio as he took the win.

Van Riel and Brownlee, held on as best they could with Van Riel just finishing outside the top 10. Brownlee faded slightly but still managed to cross the line in 34th.

Other Super League athletes found the race challenging but will have other oppertunities to redeem themselves. Vincent Luis finished 58th, Ben Kanute 71st and Hayden Wilde 80th.
