Shock as London Triathlon & Bike Show ceases trading

The owners of the London Triathlon Show that takes place alongside its sister Bike Show, have both ceased trading. The shows were booked to return to the ExCeL, London, on the 5th – 7th March 2021 with a ticket giving access to both shows. The shows promised a stellar line up of special guests and experts each day, hundreds of brands; showcasing and retailing the best products and accessories, test rides of the latest bikes, wetsuit testing, coaching and much more!

However, since mass gatherings is one of the proven vehicles of spreading Covid-19,  the owners of the exhibitions, Newtimber Media, have had their hand forced by the uncertainty surrounding the virus recovery timeline in 2021. Many people, including business traders, would have been sceptical about attending such large events while restrictions are still in place.  Not knowing the future of any event in 2021, left Newtimber Media little option other than to cease trading.

Even if the event was held under Covid-19 safety rules the event design was bound to change dramatically, due to social distancing requirements. At that point, it would be close to impossible to hold round table discussions, and personal interactions would have been a challenge. None of this would have been conducive to holding a successful event in a relaxed atmosphere,

In a tempestuous year for the exhibition and the events industry as a whole with cancellations happening everywhere day by day, this is a sad end to a popular annual event. However, the major draw for these types of shows is face-to-face socialising and the networking components, therefore, it is fair to say that it would be too risky to attempt social activities at these shows before the escape route from the pandemic is in sight in the shape of the vaccine roll-out.
