TOUR DE FRANCE 2021: Stage by Stage Guide
Just one day to go before the Grand Départ of the 108th edition of cycling’s biggest race kicks off in Brest on Saturday 26 June – the Tour De France 2021.
All eyes this Saturday will be on the start of the Tour de France. Featuring the longest stage of the Tour since 2000, 249.1km between Vierzon and Le Creusot, along with six mountain stages and three finishes at altitude. This year the world’s most famous road cycling race visits the Alps, the Pyrenees, the Morvan and the Massif Central before ending at its traditional home, the Champs-Elysees in Paris, on Sunday July 18.
The British team Ineos Grenadiers have a strong team with four riders – Geraint Thomas, Richard Carapaz, Tao Geoghegan Hart and Richie Porte – all capable of playing a leadership to regain the title it last won in 2019.
However, despite having arguably, the strongest team at this year’s race, it is defending champion Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) and fellow Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) who remain the favourites to win the 108th edition of the race.
Meanwhile, earlier in the week it was announced that Chris Froome, the four-time Tour winner, would return to the race for the first time in three years as road captain of the Israel Start-Up Nation team.
The surprise inclusion in this year’s Tour is Mark Cavendish. The Manx sprinter begins his 14th Tour after a last-minute call-up to the Deceuninck-Quickstep team. He is a replacement for last year’s top Tour sprinter and points jersey winner Sam Bennett, who has a knee injury.
