It was the Mexican Michelle Flipo who was first out of the water with Sandra Mairhofer  a few positions back on the swim exiting in 5th place, a minute behind.

But once on the bike section Mairhofer came into her own as she overtook Fiipo  within 15 minutes to take the lead and was crushing everyone around her as she dropped the watt bombs that nobody else could compete with, creating a comfortable lead.

With a lead of almost six minutes exiting T2 onto the run she continued to push the pace right up to the winning line taking gold in a time of 2:49:00.

Michelle Filpo crossed the line in second place, however, as she was racing for Mexico, it meant she was not eligible for the European Championship title, meaning the second-place spot in this championship was still wide-open

That meant Dutchwomen Diede Diederiks finishing third in the XTERRA race, secured second-place on the European Triathlon Championship podium to add to her second place in the European Duathlon Championship the day before – some feat.
