IRONMAN stands against the cruelty of tyranny

IRONMAN has made a stand against the cruelty of tyranny in line with the recommendation from the International Olympic Committee and World Triathlon by cancelling Ironman 70.3 St. Petersburg in Russian scheduled for July 17.

At the time of writing today’s earlier article on World Triathlon wholesale ban from international competition of all Russia and Belarusian athletes and officials. we stated Ironman were are still working through the evolving guidance from the relevant governing bodies and federations but has now issued a “statement of solidarity with Ukraine”  with their own injunctions.

Now that Russia has done what it has so long threatened, bulldozing international law to attack Ukraine, Ironman “condemns the actions dictated by Russian leadership” . As well as cancelling its inaugural event in Russia, Ironman 70.3 St. Petersburg they will also disallow participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the 2022 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in St. George, Utah and two IRONMAN World Championship events taking place in St. George, Utah and Kona, Hawai’i being  

No professional Russian or Belarusian athletes will be able to compete at an Ironman or 70.3 races in 2022, and no age group athletes will be “allowed to compete under the Russian or Belarusian flag at any Ironman or Ironman 70.3 events in 2022.” Age group athletes will be barred from the world championship races, but will be able to compete at other Ironman and 70.3 races, “but cannot represent either Russia or Belarus,” according to Ironman.
