Government Announce ‘FIX YOUR BIKE’ Scheme: Claim a free £50 voucher to fix-up your old bike
The government have announced a ‘Fix your Bike’ Voucher Scheme which allows members of the public to receive a voucher worth up to £50 towards the cost of repairing a bicycle. This means that If you are a keen cyclist and have an old bike gathering dust at home, you can apply for a £50 voucher to get it repaired.
The ‘Fix your Bike’ Voucher Scheme has been set up to encourage more people to embrace cycling, boost the number of commuting and leisure trips, and promote an alternative to public transport, while social distancing measures are in place. It also aims to help reduce the number of short journeys made by private cars.
“From helping people get fit and healthy and lowering their risk of illness, to improving air quality and cutting congestion, cycling and walking have a huge role to play in tackling some of the biggest health and environmental challenges that we face,” said Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The scheme is open to anyone in England who has an unused cycle in need of a repair. However, as there are a limited number of vouchers available. The vouchers will be released in batches to manage demand and an initial 50,000 vouchers will be made available on the evening of 28 July 2020, on a first come, first serve basis.
Vouchers can only be used with bike repairers or mechanics that are registered for the scheme in England, and up to two vouchers can be claimed per household. Registrations for members of the public who want to apply for a voucher open at 11:45pm on 28 July 2020 on the Energy Saving Trust website.
