‘Flaming June’ ushers in Eastbourne Triathlon this weekend
The award-winning Eastbourne Triathlon is set to return this Sunday 6th in the five-star South East Riveria resort of Eastbourne in the Mediterranean weather of ‘Flaming June’, with new European and World Championships Age-Group qualifier status races.
Eastbourne has a strong affinity with the sport of triathlon and is home to several elite athletes training as part of a long-established British Triathlon Satellite Centre (in association with Team Bodyworks). Due to the rapid growth of the sport and the towns excellent facilities Eastbourne has become a sought-after destination for triathletes both as a training centre and a race venue. So much so that the organisers TriBourne Multisport Events have confirmed that the Olympic distance event is to be a qualifier for the British Triathlon GB Age-Group Team for the European Championships in 2022 and that the sprint distance event will be a qualifier for the 2022 World Championships as well.
Eastbourne College will once again be the headline sponsor for the 2021 Eastbourne Triathlon which will feature new and improved swim and run routes for the longer Olympic distance race alongside the sprint distance event. Athletes of all abilities and experience, from novice to elite, are expected to take on what is widely considered to be one of the most scenic triathlons in the country. Starting from Eastbourne’s famous beach, triathletes will take on an iconic route, swimming against the backdrop of the historic pier, cycling on scenic roads through the South Downs National Park via Beachy Head and running on the promenade to Holywell, before finishing on Eastbourne’s Western Lawns.
The sprint distance event consists of a 750m swim, 18.3km cycle and a 5km run. The Olympic distance race consists of a 1,500m swim, followed by a challenging 41.5km cycle and a 10km run. There are also relay and aquathon (swim/run) options for both distances
The event sits alongside the wider TriBourne event series which also includes the Ironbourne long distance triathlon on July 18 and the 255 Triathlon, the world’s longest single day triathlon, on August 8. The series is completed by the XBourne Cross Triathlon on September 19 and the Eastbourne Duathlon on October 10.
After the race participants will be able to dive into an oasis of eateries and bars to sit and relax and take in food and drink with a view which will leave them feeling re-energised, refreshed and invigorated.
