Dixon and Izzard give GB a silver lining at the Europe Triathlon Championships 2022

If there is a silver lining in not winning a race its that two GB starlets Dan Dixon and Barclay Izzard each earned a silver medal at the Europe Triathlon Championships in Olsztyn, Poland over the weekend.

Daniel Dixon took silver in the U23 championship race whilst Barclay Izzard took silver in the senior elite championship race. With the run section being only 2km both ran out of tarmac to hunt for the win and had to settle for second place behind the German athletes of Simon Henseleit (U23) and Valentin Wernz (senior) respectively.

A Super Sprint consisting of 300m swim, 8km bike and 2km run was the distance for elite triathlon, U23 and junior triathletes and was competed over a semi-final and final format for European medals,

A large British contingent arrived in the city of Olsztyn with Barclay Izzard the only British triathlete competing in the senior elite races, with the elite and U23 races combined he was joined on the start line with seven U23 athletes representing Great Britain,

Lining-up in the women’s U23 race were Daisy Davies, Hollie Elliott, Sophia Green and Iona Miller, while in the men’s equivalent the British representation was Dan Dixon, Jimmy Lund and Hamish Reilly.

The junior races followed the same format as the elite triathlon and U23 races with the British team that included the top-ranked junior athletes from the British Triathlon Super Series event in Llanelli two weeks ago, with junior race winners Bethany Cook and Joe Sherman joined by Lizzy Edge, Martha Calton-Seal, Osian Perrin and Ben Cumberland as part of the squad of six.

All the Brits put in sterling performances with many top ten performance in the finals. See below:
