Daniel Dixon takes Silver at European Junior Triathlon Championship

In a stunning display of grit and determination Britain’s Daniel Dixon took second place at the European Junior Triathlon Championships in the Austrian Alps of Kitzbuhel.

After completing the 500m swim Daniel found himself in second place. The front 16 swimmers were all within 10 seconds of each at the athletes headed to T1 and with quick transition abound a large pack soon formed , As the young triathletes cycled through the village and then begin an ascent of hilly and technical hairpin mountain roads on the 4 lap 12k bike course, no-one was making a break-away significant to be a clear leader before the two lap 3.1km run.

As a large group exited T2 it was now down to who had the strength to put in a fast run. In a scintillating head-to-head between Germanys Henry Graf and Daniel Dixion, as they both headed towards the finishing line it was the German who ran through to take the win in a time of 00:33:16 with Daniel Dixon a mere 2 seconds behind in a time of 00:33:18 some 10 second ahead of Portugal’s Alexandre Montez in 3rd place.

A brilliant result for Daniel – the future is looking bright!

Dixon, is a 3 x British Youth Triathlon Champion, 2 x Super League Youth Triathlon Champion and is also one of only a few athletes to have won a Riga ETU European Cup at the age of just 16. He’s even taken on long-distance triathlon with the Pro’s in Outlaw X 70:30 and came 6th.

Team England recently welcomed Northumberland-based British triathlete, Daniel Dixon, to the Sir John Hanson Young Talent Scholarship programme. On receiving the award Daniel exclaimed “I do want to win everything. I really do want to go to the Commonwealth Games and win, I do want to be an Olympic champion”. Today’s result moves him one step closer to that dream.
