Cardiff Triathlon 2021 postponed due to Wales ‘cautious’ approach to coronavirus

The organisers of Cardiff Triathlon have reported that “after much deliberation and with a very heavy heart we are announcing the postponement of Cardiff 2021 Triathlon”.

The organisers ‘Always Aim High” were optimistic about the event going-ahead on June 27 following England’s roadmap to recovery announcement. However, the Welsh Government recovery plan for re-opening has an inbuilt ‘with caution’ caveat. What this means in practice is the reviewing of covid measures every 3-weeks using scientific data, leaving those in the events sector no clear indication of when restrictions will be lifted to a level where outdoor sporting events like triathlon can commence.

This has left the organisers with an ‘impossible situation’ given it takes months to prepare such events making the feasibility of putting on the Cardiff Triathlon a non-starter due to the uncertainties this ‘cautious’ approach brings about.  Therefore, the event organisers ‘Always Aim High’ following discussions with Cardiff council, have had no other choice but to postpone the Cardiff Triathlon, Duathlon & Swims until 2022.

This postponement will be will be a huge disappointment to everyone who has entered as well as everyone else who is involved in the event, from the charity partner- Velindre Cancer Care, sponsors and volunteers, to the local community in Cardiff whose livelihoods depend on a vibrant visitor economy.

We are sure Cardiff Triathlon will come back stronger in 2022 and participants will stay with them as the organisers try and find thier way through this events season
