The Championship Postponed
The middle distance (1.9/90/21.1) Championship event has been postponed to August 16th due to Covid-19, with a final decision on whether the race will go ahead to be announced before May 31st.
‘The Championship‘ organisers (Challange Family) informed the athletes that the decision had to be made surrounding the recent outbreak of Covid-19. They stated that they came to this conclusion “after extensive consultation with all parties involved”.
The main concern was due to travel restrictions that would potentially hinder a lot of athletes attending the race as well as general concern surrounding the health and welfare of both athletes and spectators if the event had gone ahead.
The organisers also informed the athletes that they would continue “monitoring the situation’ and make the final decision on May 31st as to whether ‘The Championship‘ can fully go ahead, even with the revised date put in place.
It was clear that the organisers understand the impact that this will have on each individual athlete. However, they remained “positive towards the future” and had confidence that ‘The Championship’ would still be held on August 16th.
