No Restriction of Movement for Triathletes at the Winterman Czech X-Treme Triathlon
As many countries implement restrictions on people’s movement, on the 11 Oct, 100 X-treme triathletes were literally cutting through beautiful landscape and breath-taking natural scenery of the Czech Republic in the Winterman X-treme Triathlon in order to finish at the top of the Czech iconic peak ‘Jested’.
The Winterman is the first of five extreme events around the world who have joined forces to create the new Extreme Triathlon Series, where athletes can push their boundaries.
This gruelling race consists of a 3.8KM Swim | 180KM Cycle | 43KM Run has a total elevation gain of 4,700m
The ‘Winterman’ starts with an extraordinary early morning swim. Jumping off the end of a ferry in icy cold water the athletes swim 3.8km down the Labe river, glowing like a swarm of firefly’s.
Ironman Not Extreme Enough? Brand New Extreme Triathlon Series Launched
The bike course, as one would expect, is very hard yet very scenic. The 180k cycle course follows the deep river Labe canyon lined by dramatic vertical cliffs. From here it goes into the Czech Switzerland National Park and zig zags it way through forest’s and deep valleys until you reach the final part of the bike leg heading down the Lusatian Mountains, with cycling speed averaging (26 km/h), as the bike elevation is over 3000m.
At T2 you notice the iconic peak of ‘Jested’ – the Winterman finish with its elevation of over 1000m above sea level. You see this all the way on the 43km run as a reminder that the final push is the most brutal, 11k of almost a vertical rocky steep climb to the top.
This year’s winners were:
Male: David Jilek racing for Titan Trilife who completed the course in 10:39:48.
Women: Hana Štefanicova racing for Cardiolab who completed the course in 14:49:03
