Wins for British duo Taylor-Brown and Yee in WTCS Montreal

Great Britain’s Georgia Taylor-Brown and Alex Yee won golds in their respective races in the World Triathlon Championship Series in Montreal.

In the final leg of the women’s eliminator format race, it was Georgia Taylor-Brown who crossed the line first in a time of 24:04 ahead of France’s Cassandre Beaugrand, with team-mate Scotland’s Beth Potter coming third to win her first WTCS medal.

Alex Yee took command of the final leg of men’s race running majestically to the front with 500 metres to go to take his victory in a time of 21:55. Second place went to the gutsy Kiwi, Hayden Wilde, who having had chain slippage on the bike section, made up a time deficit of some 25 seconds to leaders to take the race from the front on the run until Yee overpowered him.

The French who took all three podium spots last year had three athletes in this year’s final but it was only Leo Bergere who could make the podium on this occasion with third spot

Today’s final consisted of the top 30 qualifiers from the preliminary rounds held yesterday who took part in the three-leg super sprint eliminators.

The slowest 10 are eliminated after each of the first two legs, with the fastest 10 competing in final race.

Each of the three race legs included a 300m swim, a 7.2km bike ride and a 2km run.
