UK’s best triathletes shine at Podium 5K
Some of the UK’s top triathletes took to the start line at the Podium 5k that took place in Barrowford last night with Alex Yee and Beth Potter proving that triathletes are very much now part of the top echelons of the running world.
In the men’s race there were four triathletes who broke the 14 minute barrier by some distance.
The winner of the race was Marc Scott who broke the British record in a time of 13.20. Alex Yee, who is a front runner to take one of Great Britain’s spots at the Tokyo Olympics, took 2nd place in a time of 13.26, which was also under the previous UK record time of 13:27 which had been set by Nick Goolab in Monaco in February.
Ben Dijkstra and 2X Olympic medalist Jonathan Brownlee, were seventh and eighth in respective times of 13:44 and 13:46.
Scottish triathlete Grant Sheldon who has been showing fine running form recently and produced the fastest time in the Virtual National Road Relay Championships in 13.38, closely followed in 13.51, finishing in ninth.
In the Women’s race it was Olympic runner turned triathlete Beth Potter who took the tape.
Potter started the race with intent, going through the first 1k in under 3 minutes with fellow triathlete Bronwen Owen in the pack and hot on her heels.
Over the course of the race, Potter managed to pull away from everyone increasing her advantage by 12 seconds as she crossed the line in a time of 15.24.
Owen held on for fourth place finishing in a PB of 15.45
