Lucy Charles-Barclay signs with CUBE Bikes
3X Ironman Kona runner-up Lucy Charles-Barclay has announced she is moving away from bike sponsors Specialized as she signs with German brand CUBE bikes as well as DT Swiss wheels for 2021.
The former Kona age-group winner turned professional continues the surge of athletes moving away from Specialized as she takes to riding Cube’s Aerium C:68 for non-draft racing, and the Litening C:68X as her road bike.
Lucy stated about her new signing “There is no doubting the efficiency and beauty of all things CUBE but what has inspired me most about joining this team is the continuing search for innovation and improvements… I have grown and changed as an athlete a lot in a short time and everything I see with CUBE shows me that they are on a similar journey.”
Barclay also announced at the same time that she will be riding on DT Swiss wheels (specifics have not been finalised) most notably used by fierce rival Daniela Ryf and other strong Ironman bikers such as Sebastian Kienle and Patrick Lange.
In a press release by DT Swiss Barclay stated “There are so many things that draw me to the DT Swiss wheels but top of my list has to be the aerodynamics especially in variable winds of Kona. Every time I ride on them I feel happy knowing that they are super reliable and I can just ride them hard and get every ounce of extra propulsion they give me. They also look so super cool which makes me smile every time I see my bike ready for me to ride. I look forward to using them in the heat of battle soon.”
