Joe Skipper Defends Huge 200 Mile Ride
Professional British Ironman Triathlete Joe Skipper has defended his huge 201 mile ride (325km) saying that he was doing was within the rules.
Skipper, 32, who finished 6th at the Ironman World Championships 2019 faced heavy backlash by Twitter users, with some saying that he was stretching the rules to far.
Under government guidelines, people are allowed to leave their homes for exercise once a day. There is no specific time on the duration that someone can exercise but the guidance states that people should be “minimising time spent outside”.
He posted the ride onto cycling app Strava, commenting “Only go out once a day! Right better make it count then”
However, screenshots began circulating of the ride from users, with some saying it was “Unnecessary” and that he could be “taking the coronavirus elsewhere”
Skipper, who basis his training in Norwich argued back saying that “a six hour ride was no different to a two hour ride” and that his girlfriend who is a doctor said “it’s ok”
The question still remains as to whether this was a sensible decision, however, Skipper has technically done nothing wrong and it is up to us individually to deem what is acceptable.
