Javier Gómez – the next chapter
As a five-time World Triathlon Champion and Olympic medalist it’s hard to imagine Triathlons living legend Javier Gómez being any better at anything else.
Nevertheless, always on the lookout for the next challenge, one chapter closes another one opens for the one of the greatest endurance athletes of all time. Triathlon is his passion which he has turned into a career. From overcoming restrictions on a heart condition as he was starting out to now staying at the top later in his career, Javier Gómez takes it all in his stride as the world of long-course triathlon now beckons.
On his social media he announced that in 2022, he is turning to long distance racing after closing his chapter on Olympic distance triathlon – Gómez will aim to mix it up with a new intake of elite triathletes as well as an old guard of established long course athletes.
Titles and honours are not what make Javier Gómez a living legend. Gómez has that special ingredient; pure physical dynamism—the creativity to reinvent himself in endurance sport.
Gómez is already preparing his season with a number of objectives in mind, such as qualifying for the World Triathlon Long-Distance World Championship, the World Championship IRONMAN in St George and IRONMAN World Champioship in Kona.
He has already tested the water and won his first full Ironman distance race at Ironman Malaysia 2019, with a course record of 8:18:59 in 2019.
