Exclusive Interview with British Elite Triathlete Jamie Bedwell

Jamie Bedwell is a British Under 23 Elite Triathlete, with a long term goal of making it to the Olympic Games. We were able to get an exclusive interview with him on how everything is going and his plans for the 2018 season.

1. How has training been going this winter?
Since finishing the 2017 season I have overcome some challenges as well as enjoying some consistent training in the run up to my first year as an U23. In October I had my appendix removed due to a build up of scar tissue from the previous years car accident and in January I had an MRI scan which revealed bursitis in my right hip. However since returning back from training camp in February I have been enjoying some consistent swim/bike/run training and am really looking forward to getting my season underway this weekend (the 6th May) at the British University sprint distant Championships in Wiltshire.

2. Have you been on any training camps this year?
During February half term I visited Monte Gordo – Portugal for a 8 day Training camp with the South East and North West regional triathlon academies. We experienced great weather and I really enjoyed the break from what’s been a challenging winter of weather.

3. What are your Plans/races for 2018 season?
My 2018 triathlon sees me visit the Olympic distance style of racing for the first time. My main aim is still to qualify to represent the GB elite squad. My season begins with BUCS spring and Olympic distance racing in May followed by Blenheim Palace and Cardiff triathlon which are apart of this years U23 British Series as well as Eastbourne triathlon all of which I am really excitied about racing and being involved with.

4. Are you finally back in full fitness now after your horror accident 1.5 years ago?
Yes I am currently fit and healthy having returned from being hit from a car on October 10th 2016. I have been working with an outstanding sports therapist who has helped me to overcome many physical and mental opportunities that the car accident brought on.

5. What is your overall goal as a triathlete? My overall goal as a Triathlete is to compete at the very highest level in the World triathlon Series and Olympic Games. Not only do I want to achieve this but I want to use my name and popularity within sport to help create and promote positive change throughout the world. I believe God has blessed me with an incredible purpose and has great plans for me to help change many, many peoples lives for the better.

Jamie also recently created a new Triathlon short film, called ‘Training for Paris 2024’ Filmed and produced by Paul Manser Photographer and Boris Jansch in partnership with The Tri Store, Zone3 and Specialized Bicycles.
