CEP Sportswear Review
About the company
CEP has been combining science with sportswear for over a decade, and before that its parent company Medi had been producing high-quality medical compression products since 1951 from its base in Bayreuth, Germany. Born from the medical expertise of Medi, CEP started producing high-quality compression socks in 2007, and now offers a range of products from tights to shirts for activities such as running, hiking, and skiing. All the products available have been made in collaboration with renowned scientists, sports physicians, and athletes with the sole purpose of producing high-end activewear. Over the past month I have had the chance to test out four pieces of kit in all manners of Welsh weather, to see if they can stand the test.
Short Sleeve Run Shirt (Men’s)
I am going to begin with what has quickly become one of my very favourite tops to run with, in cold and warm conditions. The breathable mesh material that makes up the back of this shirt means you never get too hot, making the top perfect to wear during sessions or as a base layer on a longer run. The top is lightweight, and feels quick, which most athletes will know makes a difference during sessions. The reflective tape on the back and front of the top made it my go to top now that the nights are growing darker, with that added visibility always putting my mind at ease whilst running in the city. The only downside of this garment is its tendency to become heavy in the rain, especially if it’s pouring. Otherwise, I would wear this top for every one of my runs!
Run Shorts 3.0 Men
As a man who spent most of his teenage years devoted to split shorts, trying on some half tights was something that felt pretty alien to me. I’d always had some pre-conceived notion that they’d almost constrict my muscles, but after a few sessions in these shorts I quickly realized that was not the case. Above all else, these shorts offer a comfortable solution when your legs just aren’t really feeling it. Whilst tight enough to the skin that they stay in place, the Run Shorts 3.0 are never too tight. Additionally, CEP added a small zip pocket to the back, making it easier than ever to run straight from the house, without having to worry about hiding your keys!
Ultralight Compression Calf Sleeves and Compression Socks for Recovery
Having never used calf sleeves or compression socks properly before, I was excited to try out these products for the first time. To begin, running with calf sleeves felt strange, but I quickly got used to it, and after the first time, quickly began using calf sleeves on all my road runs to help with that post-pavement soreness. As a North Walian living in Cardiff, the compression socks for recovery have come in very handy when I’ve been travelling the 4 hours to and from home. With races starting to open up to international athletes, I would most certainly recommend these socks to anyone thinking of flying abroad to train and race.
It was clear to me that all the CEP products I tested were made of high-quality materials, with performance in mind. If you would like to check out some of the products for yourself, head over to HERE
