British Triathlon Suspend All Triathlon Activity Further

British Triathlon released an important statement on Wednesday 25 March regarding important information on Coronavirus/COVID-19

British triathlon have decided based on the latest UK government instructions to extend the suspension of all triathlon activity until at least 30 June. They stated that they “have not taken this decision lightly but in light of the rapidly changing situation, we feel it is essential to extend the period of suspension”

They addressed that this was mainly to “help protect the health and wellbeing of athletes, officials, coaches, volunteers and spectators and to alleviate the risk of an additional burden on the emergency services at a hugely testing time”

The prime minister Boris Johnson stated on Monday evening that people could still go out and exercise – for example, on a run, walk or cycle – just once a day. Parks will remain open, subject to the approval of local authorities, but gyms, including outdoor gyms, play-parks and kiosks, will close.

Andy Salmon, Chief Executive of British Triathlon also said: “This really is an unprecedented situation and we are navigating unchartered waters. The recent instruction from the government has been unequivocal in insisting that we stay at home and it is our duty to do as we are instructed.
