There was simply to be no catching the German as he neared the finishing line to take gold but Sheldon medalling in a World Cup delivered a strong statement of intent to Team Scotland for a place in the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, by crushing the demanding course to grab World Cup silver in fine style.
For the rest of the British contingent there was a top ten place for Barclay Izzard on his return of international racing finish 9th whilst ever consistent Jack Willis took 14th place. Whilst Harry Leleu and Cameron Main will have learnt plenty from their inaugural world triathlon racing experience finishing 33rd and 39th respectively.
