Blummenfelt Storms To 5K Win in 13.51
It was Kristian Blummenfelt who took the win in the invitational 5K in Bergen in a sub-14 minute performance.
With a lack of triathlon racing taking place at the moment due to the current global pandemic, the Norway Triathlon squad decided to fill the gap and take part in a 5K road race.
Norway’s three leading triathletes Kristian Blummenfelt, Casper Stornes and Gustav Iden all took to the start line and looked ready to produce a fast 5K.
Blummenfelt did not hesitate in stamping his authority on the race and was by far the fastest out of the blocks and took turns in taking the lead alongside Marius Vedvik all the way to the final stages of the race. Iden was close on their heels until the 3K mark where he then began to fade back to the next group that contained Stornes.
In the final stages it looked as though Vedvik was about to push on as he opened up a very small lead. However, a final surge from Blummenfelt in the final 1km saw him take the lead for the final time, managing to hold on to cross the line first in a extremely quick time of 13.51.
Vedvik crossed the line soon after in 13.54, with Iden taking third in 14.07.
Stornes eventually crossed the line in 5th in 14.13.
