Munich Super League Triathlon Result – Great Britain 5 – France 1
Great Britain were dominate in the Munich Super League Triathlon on Sunday with triple podium spots in the women’s event for Jess Learmonth, Georgia-Taylor Brown and Beth Potter and double podium spots in the men’s event for Jonny Brownlee and Alex Yee with only the Men’s World Champion from France, Vincent Luis able to compete and overhaul the British onslaught.
Womens Race
Once again it was Britain’s Jess Learmonth who dominated the Super League event with a commanding performance from the starting horn just a month after winning Olympic gold in the Team Relay in Tokyo and just seven days after dominant SLT London success.
Learmonth who took the win in style, while behind her was Georgia-Taylor Brown and Beth Potter completing the triple podium success, overtaking the U.S powerhouse duo of Taylor Spivey and Katie Zaferes on the final run of the events Equaliser format.
The Equaliser Format
It is a two-stage race comprising an individual 2.4km cycling time trial in Stage One and then two short triathlon of 300m swim, 1200m cycling and 900m run sequences as Stage Two. To make it really interesting, athletes must serve a time penalty in Stage Two that is equivalent to any time lost to the winner of Stage One.
Men’s Race
The first stage of the Mens Equaliser Format was not all plain sailing for the Brits. The race was a tight affair with the key contenders racing hard with only 10 seconds seperating 1st Seth Rider (USA) and 15th place Vincent Luis in the Time Trial section.
Into the first of the two short triathlon and out of the swim first was Vincent Luis to take the short Chute honour which was to pay a big dividend at the end of the race. Luis lead the charge on the bike ahead of the chasing pack of Vilaca, Wilde, Yee, Van Riel, Reid, Mola and Brownlee. Alex Yee was at the front at the end of the run to make a compelling final.
Into the last triathlon section and again it was Luis out of the swim first with Brownlee right on his tail as both rode the bike section together to gain a 15 second lead over the chasers. Into the Short run to the finish, it was Brownlee who surged to the front but could not break Luis and near the end Luis was able to use his short Chute card to break Brownlee and take the win with Alex Yee using his running prowess to take third spot.
