ITU Halts All Activities and Racing
Due to the worldwide spread of Covid-19, World Triathlon has decided to suspend all activities and races until at least the end of April.
World triathlon stated that all the World Ranking, Olympic Qualification Ranking, Paratriathlon Ranking and Paralympic Qualification Rankings would be stalled, from Monday 16th of March 2020.
All events on the World Triathlon and Continental calendars have therefore also be immediately postponed until further notice. It is expected that all affiliated home nations will swiftly follow suit of World Triathlon to put in place the same measures to avoid the spread of the virus. All staff at World Triathlon will be working from home over the next few weeks.
World Triathlon President and IOC member, Marisol Casado, said: “This is a decision that is hard to take, and you can have my word that we are taking it with the health and safety of athletes, coaches, officials, facilitators, staff, volunteers and spectators, all the triathlon family, as the top priority.
It is hoped that events will begin to be reallocated after April 30 and the situation will be constanly monitored on a daily basis.
