George Goodwin and Katrina Matthews take Outlaw Titles
Thoresby Park played host to one of the few triathlons that have gone ahead this year as a stellar field of British athletes took to the start line to face one another. It was George Goodwin (Rugby Triathlon Club) and Katrina Matthews (BMCVfit) who took the male and female titles at Outlaw X.
The race was due to be raced over a half Ironman distance, however, due to the forecasted air temperature in the morning, the swim section was reduced to 750m.
Men’s Race:
It was the young British junior and super-league youth champion Dan Dixon who led out of the water in 9:10, closely followed by Andrew Horsfall-Turner in 9:15 and they had a sizeable gap going onto the bike section to the likes of seasoned pro’s Tim Don, Adam Bowden and George Goodwin.
Come the bike section however, the Ironman athletes were out in force and closed the gap to the two upfront as Thomas Davis, Bowden, Goodwin and Don all moved through. Luke Pollard who was back on the swim was also making his way through the field from behind.
Goodwin and Don came eventually came into T2 together clocking 1:20:53 and 1:21:20 respectively for the bike section with Davis following soon after in 1:23:33.
Heading onto the run the pace was fast but in the end it was Goodwin who comfortably pulled away from Don on the run as he took the tape in 3:38:10 adding to his second place from the Helvellyn Triathlon that he took just 3 weeks ago behind Olympic Champion Alistair Brownlee. Davis moved into second on the run coming over the line in 3:41:08 and Don finished closely in third spot in 3:41:16
Women’s Race:
Olympian Lucy Hall completely dominated the swim and was over 90 seconds ahead of any other competitor by the end in 9:53. This could have been much more significant had the swim not been shortened.
Onto the bike and it was Katrina Matthews and Nickki Bartlett, who recently won Helvellyn triathlon, who quickly moved themselves up to the front of the race and powered on through the 90km, overtaking Landrige who was up ahead as well as swim leader Hall.
Quickly out of T2 Matthews hit the front on the run and stayed in that position right until the end of the race winning by over two minuets in 4:03:14. Bartlett finished in second in 4:05:40 and Langridge crossed the line in third in 4:10:01.
