2023 World Triathlon Sprint and Relay Championships to be held in Hamburg

World Triathlon together with the German Triathlon Union have confirmed the hosting rights for the 2023 World Triathlon Sprint and Relay Championship has been awarded to the historic German city of Hamburg.

Marisol Casado, World Triathlon President and IOC Member said: “The experience that Hamburg has organizing mayor triathlon events is unique. Hamburg has been one of the most special cities in our circuit. The spectators, the city, everything in Hamburg is just great. The athletes love it, the fans love it, the city has always been so welcoming for all of us, and Hamburg has a special link with the Mixed Relay. Some of our most successful events ever in our history have been here, and we can’t be happier of coming back to Hamburg.”

2021 Hamburg WTCS rearranged for 18 September

At the 2023 World Triathlon Sprint & Relay Championships medals will be awarded in nine events. Elite athletes will compete in the eliminator format, which consists of super sprint races with heats, semi-finals and a final, and in the mixed relay world championships. Juniors and age groupers will compete over the sprint distance as well as in the mixed relay.

In 2020, Hamburg held the World Triathlon Championship Series in which France’sVincent Luis and Britain’s Georgia Taylor-Brown won the respective men’s and women’s titles.  World Triathlon have recently announced that the City of Hamburg has rescheduled the 2021 WTCS for the 18/19 September following the postponement of the race back in July due to the pandemic
